What we treat
Conditions that benefit from injection.
A wide range of soft-tissue, tendon, ligament and joint pain conditions respond well to a well-placed injection — including:
Not on the list? Get in touch — we treat a far wider range of MSK problems than the headline conditions above.
How it works
From assessment to relief — typically one visit.
Most patients arrive in pain and leave with a clear treatment plan — and often the injection itself — in a single appointment.
Clinical assessment
Your GP or sonographer takes a history, examines the area and decides whether an injection is the right next step — without needing a referral.
Scan if needed
For ultrasound-guided treatment, a diagnostic scan first confirms the cause of your pain. We only proceed with an injection where it'll be of benefit.
Inject & aftercare
The injection is administered with clear aftercare guidance, side-effect counselling and onward steps — including physio referral if helpful.
About steroid injections
Don't let pain hold you back.
If you suffer from joint pain caused by injury or arthritis, a GP, Consultant or Physiotherapist may suggest a steroid (corticosteroid) injection. Steroids reduce inflammation — which in turn reduces pain and swelling in your joints so they can move more easily.
Injections are often used alongside other medicines and physiotherapy. They aren't a cure for the underlying condition, but they can ease symptoms significantly and create a window for rehabilitation. During your consultation, your clinician will detail possible side effects, complications and how to manage them.
If pain is interfering with your working day, normal movement, fitness goals or rest at night — we can help. And if you're not sure whether an injection is the right option, book a consultation with one of our GPs or attend one of our Sports Clinics for a detailed assessment.
Frequently asked
Pain-relieving injections — your questions answered.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book directly with us. In most cases it'll be possible for you to have an injection at your initial visit. If our sonographer feels your condition needs the input of a GP, or that further investigations are needed first, they'll discuss this with our in-house or Sports Medicine GP.
What's the difference between landmark-guided and ultrasound-guided?
Landmark-guided injections are placed using clinical examination — your GP palpates the bones and soft tissues to guide the needle to the right spot. They're effective for many conditions and cost £180.
Ultrasound-guided injections use live imaging so the needle can be placed with millimetre precision. They're the gold standard for many MSK injections — particularly where the target is small, deep or near important structures. £280 total (£140 scan + £140 injection).
Why are scan and injection priced separately?
Sometimes the scan shows that an injection isn't the right answer — there might be pathology that won't respond, or another approach may be better. We only proceed with (and charge for) the injection when it will be of genuine benefit to you.
Are steroid injections safe?
Yes — steroid injections are a well-established treatment and most people tolerate them well. Like any procedure they carry some risks (including temporary increase in pain, infection, skin changes and rare effects on blood sugar). Your clinician will go through possible side effects and complications during your consultation so you can make an informed choice.
How quickly will I feel relief?
Many patients notice an improvement within a few days, with the full effect typically reached at 2–4 weeks. Duration of relief varies by condition and individual — sometimes weeks, sometimes many months. Injections often work best alongside physiotherapy and a return-to-movement plan.
Where can I have an injection?
GP injections are available across our clinic network. Sports Medicine clinics are run in Ballymena and Omagh. Ultrasound-guided injections are scheduled with our in-house sonographer — booked through the standard appointment link below.
Can you offer hyaluronic acid injections?
Yes — our Sports Medicine GPs in Ballymena and Omagh offer hyaluronic acid joint injections in addition to corticosteroid injections. Talk to us about the most appropriate option for your condition.
