How to book your hearing test or purchase a hearing aid
Formal hearing tests can take up to 60 minutes. Our audiologist will undertake testing that you might better understand the effectiveness of your ears in hearing high, medium & low frequency sound. You can then determine whether hearing aids would be of benefit.
We provide a wide range of hearing aids to suit every budget – from basic battery powered devices to rechargeable and technologically advanced units. The cost of your hearing test is subtracted from the cost of any aids bought through us. Full set up of your hearing devices are included in their cost, as is repair and maintenance.
You have access to discounted follow up appointments with our GPs after this appointment by telephone, video or face to face in clinic.
What happens during a hearing test?
During a hearing test our audiologist will:
- Check the health of your ears
- Perform a hearing test
- Advise on aftercare and next steps depending on the outcome of the check
- Advise one of our in house GPs if you need a Consultant opinion or prescription
The audiologist will test your ears by playing sounds at different pitches through a pair of headphones and asking you to press a button every time you hear a sound. They will then ask you to wear a special headband that will test how well you hear sounds through vibrations. During both tests they will be measuring the quietest sounds you can hear. It takes anything from 30-60 minutes.
What if I need a hearing aid?
If your test results indicate you’d benefit from a hearing aid, the audiologist will talk you through all the options that might be suitable for you. They may also take a mould of your ear canal so that your new aid fits properly. This can take up to five minutes and is completely painless.
Your new hearing aids will be programmed to your needs and we’ll make sure you know how to use them before you leave Duality. We’ll also organise a follow up appointment to check that everything is well and adjust the hearing aids if necessary. Our audiologist will explain all the details during your initial appointment.
How often should I have a hearing test?
If you notice a sudden or gradual change in your hearing, it’s important to have your hearing checked as soon as possible, no matter your age. We would also recommend having a hearing test every year if you’re over 50, or every two years if you’re under 40.
