The future of healthcare
In Northern Ireland, life expectancy is around 78.8 years for men and 82.6 for women — but healthspan (the years spent in good health) averages over 20 years less. The Healthspan Assessment is about narrowing that gap.
"A Healthspan Assessment helps you find out how your body is functioning, spot risks early, and leave with a clear plan to improve your future health."
Take ownership of your health before symptoms appear — rather than waiting for something to go wrong.
Quantify the biological markers that predict how the next decades will play out — strength, fitness, body composition.
Body composition, grip strength, cardiorespiratory fitness — all captured in one comprehensive detailed report.
Spot and address risk factors — cardiometabolic, sarcopenia, low aerobic capacity — before they become medical problems.
Catch declining markers years before they show up in standard medicals or routine GP checks.
Specific recommendations based on your data — not generic advice that could apply to anybody.
Re-test in 3–6 months and see the measurable impact of the changes you've made — keeping motivation high.
Practical next steps suited to your lifestyle, schedule and goals — not a one-size-fits-all programme.
Knowing your numbers — and having someone to discuss them with — makes it much easier to stay consistent.
Who it's for
If any of the below sounds like you, the Healthspan Assessment is built for exactly this kind of moment.
Men and women who want to track fitness and body composition while they're still highly responsive to change.
People who want a convenient, data-driven snapshot of their health without committing to a multi-day medical.
Those who want reassurance, key health data tracked over time, and recommendations personalised to their own body.
Individuals returning from a period of stress, poor sleep, weight gain or reduced activity who want a clear baseline to rebuild from.
Those who want to age well, focus on prevention and longevity — rather than waiting for symptoms or illness to appear first.
Anyone 50–60 who is becoming more aware of ageing — and wants to actively maintain strength, energy and independence for the decades ahead.
Dr Jonny's TEDx talk explores how we can add quality years to our lives by treating health as a proactive daily practice — not something we only think about in hospitals or clinics.
Drawing on his own father's journey with Parkinson's disease, Jonny shares his framework for longevity: small, sustainable changes in movement, nutrition, sleep, stress and social connection that create powerful shifts in wellbeing.
Client testimonials
Real stories from people who've taken the Healthspan Assessment at Duality.
I decided to undertake the Healthspan Assessment in my 50s as a way to better understand where my health currently stands and to focus on prevention rather than wait to be reactive. The location in Belfast City Centre made it very convenient for me, and the entire experience was efficient and professionally run from start to finish.
The combination of clinical checks, detailed body composition and segmental analysis, along with the submaximal VO₂ max test on the Wattbike and grip strength measurement, gave me a far more complete picture than I've ever had before.
What I valued most was the clarity and quality of the advice afterwards. The recommendations were specific, realistic, and tailored to me, which gives me confidence moving forward.
It's something I now see as part of my routine health strategy, and I plan to repeat it 2–3 times per year to monitor progress and stay on track.
I signed up for the Healthspan Assessment as I'm eager to take a more proactive approach to my health in my 30s, especially as I'm running a business and looking ahead to how I'll stay fit after I finish playing rugby. The whole process was incredibly straightforward and well-organised at the Belfast clinic on Bedford Street, which was really easy to fit around work.
The assessment itself was comprehensive without being overwhelming. Everything was clearly explained and really professionally delivered.
What stood out most was the quality of the insights and feedback. I left with practical, personalised recommendations that I will actually implement, rather than generic advice. It's given me a clear baseline and real motivation to improve.
I'll definitely be coming back to re-assess again later this year.
FAQs
No — the Healthspan Assessment is a standalone service priced at £199 and isn't currently included in any Duality membership tier. Members may benefit from a small discount; please ask at the booking step.
The assessment is delivered in-clinic only, at our Belfast city centre clinic. It can't be done remotely because it relies on specialist equipment — a Wattbike, Tanita body composition scales and a hand-grip dynamometer.
We plan to expand the Healthspan Assessment to other Duality clinics over time as more equipment becomes available.
The assessment is delivered by Dr Jonny Bloomfield, our Brand Ambassador and Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC), together with members of the Duality clinical team.
If you'd like a clinical interpretation of your results, a Duality GP can review them as an optional follow-up — at a discounted member rate.
No — the Healthspan Assessment is designed for adults of all fitness levels. The Wattbike portion is a sub-maximal ramp test, meaning you'll work up to a level of effort that's challenging for you rather than a fixed intensity, and you can stop whenever you need to.
We'll screen you with a short health questionnaire before your appointment and adapt the protocol to your current ability.
Three measurements — body composition (Tanita), grip strength, and cardiorespiratory fitness (Wattbike VO₂ max) — are among the most predictive markers of healthspan and longevity in the published evidence.
Together they give a much more complete picture of how well you're ageing than any single test in isolation. Each one is linked to risk of chronic disease, mobility and quality of life in later decades.
During the session, Dr Bloomfield will talk you through your numbers and what they mean. You'll then receive a comprehensive detailed report by email within a few days of your assessment.
From there you can: book an optional Duality GP review for a clinical interpretation, work through your Wellness Action Plan independently, or come back in 3–6 months to re-test and track your progress.
Yes — the Healthspan Assessment works best alongside any medical treatment you're already receiving, not instead of it. Dr Jonny Bloomfield is a Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (not a GP), and works to fit lifestyle support around the medication, diagnoses and care plans you already have in place.
If you'd like a clinical interpretation of your assessment results, a Duality GP can review them — book a discounted virtual or in-clinic follow-up at the time of your assessment.
Yes. Your data, results and anything you share stay private. Notes are kept in line with standard medical record-keeping but never shared with your NHS GP or anyone else without your explicit consent.
