Microsuction
A gentle, low-pressure suction device removes wax directly from the canal under direct view — no water, no flushing.

Performed by experienced clinicians using modern equipment, with the option of evening and weekend appointments. £35 charge if no wax is found.
From £25 per ear 15–20 minutes · free repeat if needed
How it works
Quick, comfortable and undertaken by qualified clinicians using modern equipment — at any Duality clinic, or at home if mobility is an issue.
Choose any of our clinics. Evening appointments run up to 9pm Monday to Friday, and weekend slots are available.
Your clinician examines both ears with a modern otoscope, then removes wax using the most suitable technique for what they find.
If your wax can't be cleared on the day and a second visit is needed, the follow-up appointment is free of charge.
Three techniques
Your clinician chooses the technique that best suits the wax in front of them — and switches between methods as needed during the appointment.
A gentle, low-pressure suction device removes wax directly from the canal under direct view — no water, no flushing.
A controlled flow of warm water flushes stubborn or impacted wax out of the canal — gentle and precise.
Small specialist instruments are used to lift out resistant debris under direct visual guidance.
Should you book?
If you're experiencing any of the following, it's often a sign your ears need a clean.
Sudden partial or full reduction — particularly noticeable after swimming or showering.
Ringing, buzzing or other noise in the ears that wasn't there before.
A sensation like there's a stone in your ear, or wax pressing against the canal.
That muffled, pressurised sensation in one or both ears.
A new sense of being off-balance or unsteady — particularly when moving.
Persistent itching deep in the ear canal that won't settle.
£25 one ear · £50 both ears · 15–20 minutes · qualified clinician · £35 charge if no wax found · domiciliary visits priced separately
Use a qualified clinician
Since NHS GP surgeries stopped routine ear wax removal during Covid, providers have popped up in pharmacies, shops and supermarkets — many of them non-clinical and unregulated.
Incorrect work can cause infection, trauma and even permanent hearing damage. With Duality, every appointment is delivered by a qualified GP or audiologist using modern equipment under direct view.
FAQs
Common signs include sudden partial or full hearing loss (especially after swimming), a full or blocked feeling in the ear, itchiness deep in the canal, new dizziness or imbalance, or tinnitus (ringing or buzzing). Sometimes an audiologist, GP or nurse will have told you your ears need attention — that's also a clear sign.
Very. Our clinicians are experienced and use modern equipment to see directly inside the ear canal while they work. Wax is removed in whichever way suits your ears best on the day — microsuction, irrigation, or manual extraction with specialist instruments.
Occasionally a second session is needed if the wax is particularly stubborn. If that happens, your follow-up appointment is free of charge.
£25 for one ear or £50 for both ears at our clinics. If, on examination, no wax is found and no removal is required, the charge is reduced to £35. Domiciliary (home or care home) visits cost a little more due to travel time.
