How it works

From fitting to results in 48 hours.

A simple three-step process — easy to wear, no hospital visit, and the device fits discreetly under your clothes.

1

Morning fitting (15 min)

Our nurse or healthcare assistant fits the cuff and explains how to wear it. The device slips under your clothes and connects to a small recorder.

2

Wear it for 24 hours

The cuff inflates 2–3 times an hour, day and night. Carry on as normal — just avoid baths, showers, swimming and vigorous sport while wearing it.

3

Report in 48 hours

Return the device the following morning. Your detailed report is emailed as a PDF within 48 hours, ready to share with any clinician or to discuss with our team.

Why 24 hours?

A clinic reading misses what your body does for 23 of them.

Blood pressure changes constantly with activity, sleep, stress and food. A single number taken in a clinic — when you may be slightly anxious — doesn't tell the whole story.

A 24-hour monitor builds a true picture across the day and night. We often see spikes overnight, particularly in people carrying extra weight or who enjoy a drink in the evening — spikes you'd never catch at a routine check.

And because hypertension silently damages the heart, kidneys and brain, getting a clear picture early matters. For £80, it's reassurance worth having.

Worth considering if you have

Who should book a 24-hour monitor?

We'd recommend a 24-hour blood pressure check every six months if any of the following apply.

Known hypertension
Diabetes
Heart disease
History of stroke
Chronic kidney disease
Peripheral vascular disease
High cholesterol
Smoker, current or former
Carrying extra weight
Family history of high BP
30s or 40s, never checked
Just want peace of mind

A normal random blood pressure does not always indicate an absence of disease. If you're worried, speak to a Duality GP first — we can guide you on what's needed.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions.

What is a 24-hour blood pressure monitor?

It's a small portable device worn around the waist or on a shoulder strap, connected by a narrow tube to a cuff on your upper arm. The cuff automatically inflates and records your blood pressure at regular intervals through the day and night.

The tubing and cuff sit under your clothing, and you can carry on with most of your day as normal.

What can I do (and not do) while wearing it?

You can carry on with most of your usual day — work, walking, light exercise, eating, sleeping. The things to avoid for the 24 hours are: baths, showers, swimming and any vigorous sports, as the device can't get wet and heavy movement disrupts the readings.

When the cuff inflates, try to keep your arm still and relaxed — this reduces the chance of a repeat reading.

Are there any risks?

There are no known risks. It can feel slightly uncomfortable when the cuff inflates — that's normal. If a particular reading becomes too uncomfortable you can abort it or remove the cuff and leave a note for our team when you return the device.

How will I get my results?

You return the device the next morning to our receptionist. Within 48 hours your full report is emailed to you as a PDF.

If you'd like to discuss the results, you can book a discounted GP follow-up: 10-minute video call £49, or a 15-minute in-clinic appointment £60.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book a 24-hour monitor directly — no referral needed. If you're not sure whether it's the right test for you, call us and we'll help you decide.

Where are appointments available?

Available at every Duality clinic — Belfast, Newry, Ballymena (Galgorm), Omagh and Derry. Appointments are first thing in the morning so you can wear the device through a full 24-hour cycle.
